When it comes to watering your lawn, many folks have no idea just how much to water. However, it's quite simple. Follow these three rules to water your lawn just right.

1. Water Deeply
Light, shallow watering produces weak root systems, easily killed by a small drought. Homeowners should water thoroughly to ensure that the roots go deep into the soil. Water enough to moisten the top six inches of soil.
2. Water Infrequently
Watering too often can result in overwatering, where nutrients are leached past the root zone, and into the groundwater. These nutrients, like nitrogen, are crucial to the overall health and wellbeing of lawn.

3. Water Carefully
Every lawn is different, and each requires different care. Different types of soil need different amounts of water. One good way to determine what type of soil you have is to take small sample of your soil and send it to you local county office for testing. (Note: Check with your local county office before mailing them a pack of dirt)
